Emerson Felipe Narváez

Size:
Sale price$26.75 USD

Emerson Felipe Narváez is a 33-year-old coffee producer from Cumbitara, Nariño,
and a second-generation farmer who’s chosen a bold and challenging path:
producing high-quality specialty coffee in a region often dominated by illegal
crops. While many pursue coca for fast returns, Emerson is proving that
coffee, when done right can be both sustainable and transformative.

His farm, Finca El Turpial, sits at 2,200 meters above sea level and spans 30
hectares in total. Of those, one hectare is fully dedicated to his SL-28. A variety
that comes from Kenya, developed by Scott Labs and is from the line of the
Bourbon variety.

This semi-washed lot was picked as fully ripe cherries, floated to take out
impurities and underwent a two-step fermentation. The first one anaerobic in
cherries during 48 hours, dry in blue barrels, the next one after pulping them, for
another 96 hours.

This lot is incredibly juicy: a rich mango-like profile (mango lassi even?) dominates the cup with silky tones and a dynamic tangerine acidity that permeates throughout the cup.

Sorting Level

10%

All our roasted coffees are run through an AI-powered optical sorter. This extra step ensures that you receive only the most nutrient-dense, flavorful coffees from each lot. The machine is also capable of removing any foreign objects (corn, metals, rope, to name a few) from the rest of the coffees.

The higher the percentage, the more coffee is being removed in order to achieve a truly pristine product. We liken this to how sake-makers "polish" during production in order to reach a higher-quality product.

Nothing goes to waste: the rejected coffees are re-roasted and sold to local markets.

Variety / Cultivar

SL34

SL34 was selected from a single tree on the Loresho Estate in Kabete, Kenya since research at the Scott Laboratories was often conducted in cooperation with local, private estate owners. Recent genetic tests have indicated that SL34 is related to the Typica genetic group.
