Alo Morkie Village

Size:
Sale price$25.50 USD

Alo Coffee was founded by Tamiru and his wife Messi, named after Tamiru’s home village Alo in Bensa, Sidama. Alongside working in coffee, Tamiru was also an electrical engineer and university professor. In 2020, the first Cup of Excellence competition was held in Ethiopia, and Tamiru won the 2021 competition with a beautiful, high altitude, carefully sorted natural from Alo Bensa. He has since traveled the world to grow his expertise in coffee and share his knowledge with other producers, and Alo has become an undeniable source of some of Ethiopia’s most unique and exceptional coffees.

Regalia won gold with this coffee in the 2025 Global Coffee Awards Experimental Filter category, and we’re thrilled to have it back on the menu this year. With a 72 hour anaerobic fermentation followed by sun drying in cherry, Tamiru is really pushing the boundaries of processing with this coffee, while miraculously maintaining a clean, balanced, spice-driven profile. We taste bright raspberry, juicy asian pear, and lingering candied orange in the finish.

Sorting Level

9.5-10%

All our roasted coffees are run through an AI-powered optical sorter. This extra step ensures that you receive only the most nutrient-dense, flavorful coffees from each lot. The machine is also capable of removing any foreign objects (corn, metals, rope, to name a few) from the rest of the coffees.

The higher the percentage, the more coffee is being removed in order to achieve a truly pristine product. We liken this to how sake-makers "polish" during production in order to reach a higher-quality product.

Nothing goes to waste: the rejected coffees are re-roasted and sold to local markets.
