Rubirizi Hill

size:
Sale price$25.00 USD

This washed Red Bourbon comes from the Bukeye Washing Station in Gitega, Burundi, operated by Long Miles Coffee, whose work has helped bring consistent quality and transparency to the region. The coffee is sourced from smallholders farming on Rubirizi Hill, which sits at approximately 1,750 meters above sea level just east of Gaharo, within the broader 1,500–1,800 meter production range served by the station. In the cup, this coffee is smooth and balanced, with a black tea-like profile, bittersweet pomelo acidity, and a maple-syrup sweetness that rounds out the finish.

Sorting Level

9-10%

All our roasted coffees are run through an AI-powered optical sorter. This extra step ensures that you receive only the most nutrient-dense, flavorful coffees from each lot. The machine is also capable of removing any foreign objects (corn, metals, rope, to name a few) from the rest of the coffees.

The higher the percentage, the more coffee is being removed in order to achieve a truly pristine product. We liken this to how sake-makers "polish" during production in order to reach a higher-quality product.

Nothing goes to waste: the rejected coffees are re-roasted and sold to local markets.

Variety / Cultivar

Red Bourbon

A naturally occurring Typica-mutation: Bourbon coffees are recognized across the world as a standard for high-grade arabica coffee. At it's best, we find that Rwandan Red Bourbon is incredibly sweet, crisp, and balanced in its expression.
