This honey-processed Bourbon comes from the Heza Washing Station in Burundi, a remote site perched at approximately 1,960 meters above sea level and serving coffee-growing communities across the surrounding hills. Heza, meaning “beautiful place” in Kirundi, relies on fresh water pumped from a nearby natural spring, and cherries are carefully hand-sorted before undergoing controlled fermentation and extended drying. The result is a coffee that reflects both the high elevation and the station’s meticulous processing approach.

In the cup, this coffee is clean and expressive, with notes of sweet tea, Meyer lemon, and a crisp, clearly defined acidity. We’re excited to feature this coffee alongside another from Long Miles Coffee on the menu this season, including the Rubirizi Hill washed Bourbon.

Sorting Level

9-10%

All our roasted coffees are run through an AI-powered optical sorter. This extra step ensures that you receive only the most nutrient-dense, flavorful coffees from each lot. The machine is also capable of removing any foreign objects (corn, metals, rope, to name a few) from the rest of the coffees.

The higher the percentage, the more coffee is being removed in order to achieve a truly pristine product. We liken this to how sake-makers "polish" during production in order to reach a higher-quality product.

Nothing goes to waste: the rejected coffees are re-roasted and sold to local markets.

Variety / Cultivar

Red Bourbon

A naturally occurring Typica-mutation: Bourbon coffees are recognized across the world as a standard for high-grade arabica coffee. At it's best, we find that Rwandan Red Bourbon is incredibly sweet, crisp, and balanced in its expression.
