Ibisi washing station is located in the hills of Southern Rwanda, just a short drive from the Nyungwe Forest. Bernard Uwitije, a native of the area, had been trading dry-processed coffees, when he realized the potential for fully washed specialty grade coffee.

He built his first washing station, Gitega hills and had operated successfully in his first year. His success prompted him to then invest and create Gitega's sister washing station: Ibisi.

Fans of clean and refined coffees will enjoy this coffee's buttery pain aux raisin qualities. This acid-forward profile features refined ripe grape, and a honey-like sweetness that permeates through the cup.

Sorting Level

9-10%

All our roasted coffees are run through an AI-powered optical sorter. This extra step ensures that you receive only the most nutrient-dense, flavorful coffees from each lot. The machine is also capable of removing any foreign objects (corn, metals, rope, to name a few) from the rest of the coffees.

The higher the percentage, the more coffee is being removed in order to achieve a truly pristine product. We liken this to how sake-makers "polish" during production in order to reach a higher-quality product.

Nothing goes to waste: the rejected coffees are re-roasted and sold to local markets.

Variety / Cultivar

Red Bourbon

A naturally occurring Typica-mutation: Bourbon coffees are recognized across the world as a standard for high-grade arabica coffee. At it's best, we find that Rwandan Red Bourbon is incredibly sweet, crisp, and balanced in its expression.
