The Gatina washing station has done a lot over the years to elevate the shareholders of this region. The station sits a few kilometers outside the town of Karatina in Nyeri County, and is managed by the Mugaga Farmers' Cooperative Society. Cherry is pulped with a three-disc pulper and then fermented overnight. All water for pulping and fermentation is drawn from fresh rivers. Following dry fermentation, coffee is washed in clean water, soaked, and spread to dry on raised beds for between 7-15 days.
