Alongside working in coffee, Tamiru was also an electrical engineer and university professor. In 2020, the first Cup of Excellence competition was held in Ethiopia, and Tamiru won the 2021 competition with a beautiful, high altitude, carefully sorted natural from Alo Bensa. He has since traveled the world to grow his expertise in coffee and share his knowledge with other producers, and Alo has become an undeniable source of some of Ethiopia’s most unique and exceptional coffees. Last year, we had Alo’s beloved Morkie Anaerobic Natural, a 2025 Global Coffee Award winner and an easy favorite among our staff. We’re thrilled to carry Morkie again along with 2 more Alo coffees this year. The beans were slow-dried for 10-15 days on raised beds under moderate sunlight. This coffee is smooth, sweet, and floral like a delicate yubari melon.
